A pedal (1) for a bicycle having a pedal axle (10) with a first end (11) and a second end (12), the pedal axle (10) building the axis of rotation A of the pedal (1), a pedal body (20) being rotatably coupled to said second end (12) of said pedal axle (10) and at least one cleat engaging mechanism (40,50) being provided for coupling a cleat (2) to the pedal body (20). A top plate (30) is placed on the pedal body (20), said top plate (30) basically extending along said pedal axle (10) for contacting the cleat (2). Said top plate (30) has a length (D 1 ) extending substantially parallel to the axis of rotation (A), said length (D 1 ) of said top plate (30) is more than 55 mm.
