A photo interrupter is provided to increase light emitting and receiving efficiency by including light emitting and receiving parts including a structure in which light emitting and receiving chips are surface-mounted on a PCB wherein the light emitting and receiving parts are made of a COB(chip-on-board) type including a shield plate having a hole. A photo interrupter includes a light emitting part(20) and a light receiving part(30) that are installed in a housing(10) and separated from each other by a predetermined interval. The light emitting part includes a PCB(21), a light emitting chip, a first shield plate(23) and a resin layer(24). A lead terminal is formed on the back surface or the bottom of the PCB. The light emitting chip generates light, surface-mounted on the PCB. The first shield plate is positioned in the front part of the light emitting chip having a first hole(23a) through which the light generated from the light emitting chip passes. The PCB is fixed to the first shield plate by the resin layer. The light receiving part includes a PCB(31), a light receiving chip, a second shield plate and a resin layer(34). A lead terminal(31a) is formed on the back surface of the bottom of the PCB(31). The light receiving chip receives light, surface-mounted on the PCB(31). The second shield plate is positioned in the front part of the light receiving chip, having a second hole confronting the light receiving chip. The PCB is fixed to the second shield plate by the resin layer(34).
