A driving apparatus of a liquid crystal display and a driving method thereof are provided to prevent horizontal line defect due to brightness difference between scanning lines by applying different common voltages to two vertically neighboring liquid crystal cells to which data signals of the same polarity are supplied and thus causing the charging condition of the two liquid crystal cells to be equal. In a driving apparatus of a liquid crystal display, there is provided a liquid crystal panel(102) in which a plurality of gate lines are formed side by side in a first direction, a plurality of data lines are formed side by side in a second direction across the first direction, and liquid crystal cells are formed at the regions defined by the gate and data lines. A gate driver(104) supplies scan pulses to the gate lines. A data driver(106) supplies analog pixel signals to the data lines. A timing controller(110) controls the gate driver and the data driver by a vertical 2-dot inversion driving method so that the polarity of the pixel signal is inverted every two dots in the first direction at the liquid crystal panel, and the polarity of the pixel signal is inverted every dot in the second direction. A common voltage generating unit(120) supplies different common voltages to vertically neighboring liquid crystal cells to which pixel signals of the same polarity are supplied.
