An apparatus and a method for providing a background sound in a mobile communication terminal are provided to effectively give a background sound by reducing noise when the background sound is provided in the mobile terminal. A natural voice of a caller and a background sound are mixed with each other(301). The natural voice of the caller is separated from the background sound by using a sound pressure of the mixed natural voice and the background sound(303). The volume sizes of the separated natural voice and the background sound are compared with each other(305). The volume sizes of the natural sound and the background sound are adjusted by the compared volume size(307). The volume of the background sound is removed or adjusted when the caller speaks. The volume of the natural sound of the caller is removed or adjusted.
