A method for automatically compensating for a dark current in an image sensor in consideration of temperature and noise compensation is provided to calculate a correct dark current value by using an additional dark current compensation value obtained from a pixel array as well as a black line. A method for compensating for a dark current of an image sensor having a pixel array and a black line which is formed around the pixel array and forms a dark current includes a first step of sampling image signals from the pixel array and the black line in an idle state to generate a dark current compensation value, a second step of sampling the image signal from the black line and generating a dark current value of a normal operation when the image sensor senses an image, and a third step of compensating the dark current value of the second step by using the dark current compensation value of the first step.
