Provided are an arylene-based derivative containing a polar functional group which is excellent in the solubility in an organic solvent, an organic electroluminescent device containing the arylene-based derivative which has good drive voltage and brightness, and a method for preparing the organic electroluminescent device. The arylene-based derivative is represented by the formula(1), wherein Ar1, Ar2, Ar3 and Ar4 are independently a substituted or unsubstituted C6-C30 arylene group or a substituted or unsubstituted C2-C30 heteroarylene group; M1 and M2 are independently H, a group represented by -NL1(L2) or L3; L1, L2 and L3 are independently a substituted or unsubstituted C6-C30 aryl group or a substituted or unsubstituted C2-C30 heteroaryl group and L1 and L2 can be connected to form a substituted or unsubstituted ring containing N; N1 and N2 are independently H, a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C20 alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C20 cycloalkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C20 heterocycloalkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C6-C30 aryl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted C2-C30 heteroaryl group; at least one of X1 and X2, at least one of X3 and X4 and at least one of X5 and X6 are a group represented by -O-C(=Z)-Y-L4; Y is S, C N or O; Z is S or O; L4 is H, a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C20 alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C20 cycloalkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C20 heterocycloalkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C6-C30 aryl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C2-C30 heteroaryl group, an alkoxy group, an alkylamine group, or a thioalkyl group; l, o and q are 0 or 1; l+o+q is an integer of 1-3; and m, n, p and r are an integer of 0-3.
