Apparatus for printing indicia on a record medium comprises an aspirator, means for supplying indicia marking fluid to said aspirator, and means for applying fluid signals to the aspirator to cause the indicia marking fluid to be drawn from the supply means and deposited on the record medium. An ink supply chamber 20 containing ink, which may include magnetic or electrically conductive material, is connected by ducts 18 to a plurality of aspirator chambers 10 provided with openings 14. Each chamber 10 is connected by a duct 28 to a fluid amplifier 26 which is in turn connected via a duct 24 to a signal source 22. The source 22 may comprise a typewriter or a device for pneumatically sensing holes punched in a record medium such as a cord. The amplifiers 26 receive a power stream input through a duct 34 from a regulator 36 and a compressor 38 which stream is returned via duct 40. A signal applied to a duct 24, however, diverts this stream into a duct 20 and causes a high velocity fluid stream to pass through an aspirator 10. Because of the restricted orifice the stream causes ink to be drawn from a duct 18 and deposits it through opening 14 on to a recording web 32. The web 32 is fed by rollers 44, 46 and passes between a light source 52 and a photo-cell 50 causing a signal to be applied to a multivibrator 54. The output of the multivibrator lasts for a given duration and closes a valve 58 thereby removing an overriding control signal input 42 which deflects the power stream back to the duct 40 even when a signal is applied at 22. The web may be fed intermittently or continuously and the binary, decimal, "Hollerith" (Registered Trade Mark) or Baudot system of representation may be used.
