A mobile terminal having an echo canceling apparatus is provided to reduce a memory capacity and an amount of calculation for canceling echo. A modem chip(100) transmits/receives voice data. An A/D converter(200) converts an analog voice signal inputted from a microphone(MIC) into a digital signal. A D/A converter(300) converts decoded digital signal into an analog voice signal and outputs it to a speaker(SPK). A vocoder(400) encodes the digital signal which has been converted by the A/D converter(200) and outputs the encoded signal to the modem chip(100), and decodes encoded voice data outputted from the modem chip(100) and outputs the decoded data to the D/A converter(300). An echo canceller(500) stores the digital signal which has been converted by the A/D converter(200) in an internal memory, and cancels an echo component from the voice data which has been decoded by the vocoder(400) based on the digital signal stored in the internal memory.
