AN ARRAY SUBSTRATE FOR IN-PLANE SWITCHING MODE LCD AND METHOD OF FABRICATING OF THE SAME

An array substrate for an in-plane switching mode LCD and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to minimize the distortion of an electric field at separation areas between horizontal and vertical parts of common electrodes and pixel electrodes by forming protrusions. A plurality of pixel areas(P) are defined on a substrate(200). Gate lines(202) and data lines(220) placed at one side and the other side of the pixel areas cross each other. A metal pattern(206) is placed at one side of the pixel area with a plurality of first protrusions(G1). A common line(208) is placed at the other side of the pixel area, having a plurality of second protrusions(G2). A thin film transistor(T) is placed at a cross point of the gate line and the data line. A pixel electrode(226) is formed of a vertical part(226a) placed on the common line and a plurality of horizontal parts(226b) extended from the vertical part to the first protrusions. A common electrodes(228) is formed of a vertical part(228a) placed on the metal pattern and a plurality of horizontal parts(228b) extended from the vertical part to the second protrusions.
