A method of increasing coumarin and scopoletin contents in Artemisia Capillaris and a method of purifying coumarin and scopoletin in the Artemisia Capillaris are provided, which enables to achieve composition having antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer and anti-dementia activity. To increase coumarin and scopoletin contents in Artemisia Capillaris, the Artemisia Capillaris is heated at 79.4 to 149.0deg.C for 5 to 30min. The coumarin and scopoletin in Artemisia Capillaris are purified by the steps of: extracting the Artemisia Capillaris having increased coumarin and scopoletin contents with ethanol; dispersing the extract in water, extracting with a solvent selected from the group consisting of dichloromethane and ethyl acetate and concentrating to produce an organic solvent-soluble fraction; and concentrating the organic solvent-soluble fraction and purifying using chromatography. The chromatography uses a solvent selected from the group consisting of methanol, hexane, ethyl acetate, acetic acid, chloroform, benzene and a mixed solvent of two more components thereof and a carrier selected from the group consisting of silica gel, reverse phase silica gel, high speed liquid and Sephadex. |
