An air conditioner is provided to form first and second branch paths at an inlet of an indoor heat exchanger, and mount an indoor capillary to one of the branch paths and a first opening/closing valve to the other one for carrying out expansion of refrigerant immediately before introduction thereof into the indoor heat exchanger in a cooling mode, thereby improving system efficiency and restraining slip of an electronic expansion valve. An air conditioner includes an outdoor unit(110) having compressors(111) and an outdoor heat exchanger(121), and an indoor unit(140) having an indoor heat exchanger(141) for heat exchange of room air. The indoor heat exchanger is formed with first and second branch paths(142,152) in parallel at an inlet in a cooling mode. An indoor capillary(144) is mounted to one of the first and second branch paths. A first opening/closing valve such as an electronic expansion valve(154) is mounted to the other one for opening/closing the same.
