An automated credit transfer system using an optical card of an ATM(Automated Teller Machine) and a method thereof are provided to automatically perform transfer transactions by marking a bank code, an account number, and the sum of money on the optical card and recognizing transfer information marked on the optical card with the ATM. A financial automated system is composed of host computers installed in each bank to store all information related to financial transactions and execute all transactions and an ATM(20) comprising a user input unit(23) for letting a user input financial transaction information and a control unit(28) interlocking with the host computer and carrying out financial transactions by controlling a cash/check depositing and drawing unit(24) through user authentication of a card inserted to a card treating unit(22) by the user. In addition, the ATM has an optical card recognition unit(30) for recognizing an inserted optical card(31) such as an OCR(Optical Character Reader) or OMR(Optical Mark Reader) card and the optical cards on which the user writes down transfer information including a bank code, an account number, and the sum of money to be transferred. The control unit executes money transfer as the optical card recognition unit completely recognizes the transfer information of the optical card.
