1325624 Indicating vehicle speed KIENZLE APPARATE GmbH 19 April 1971 [16 April 1970] 26136/71 Heading B7H [Also in Division G1] A speed warning is given on a vehicle provided with a tachograph by a device comprising an optical indicator 9, a flexible optical fibre 8, a shutter 10 and an incandescent lamp 6 arranged so that the shutter is driven by speed sensing mechanism in the tachograph and in selected speed ranges allows light from the lamp 6 to reach the optical fibre 8 to be led to the indicator 9 The shutter may be a disc 10 with a small hole to allow light to pass from the lamp 6 (and reflector 7) to the optical fibre 8 The disc 10 may be frictionally mounted on a spindle 3 so that, when the vehicle is stationary, the speed range can be selected by manual rotation of the disc 10 relative to the spindle 3. Alternatively the disc 10 may be fixed to the spindle 3 and a plurality of holes at different angular positions may be radially spaced thereon so that the speed range may be selected by radially displacing the lamp 6 and fibre 8 jointly. The lamp 6 may also illuminate the dial and pointer through further optical fibres, Fig. 2 (not shown). In the embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown), a gear-wheel on the spindle 3 drives rectilinearly a carriage carrying a shutter and a speed recording stylus and the shutter prevents light reaching the optical fibre 8 until the speed exceeds a selected value. In the embodiment of Fig. 3, a single incandescent lamp 13 is mounted behind the instrument panel 14 and different optical fibres direct light therefrom to the tachometer 1 below the panel 14 and to instruments 17a, 17b and a green optical indicator 20 on the panel 14, while the optical fibre 8b redirects light from fibre 8a to a red optical indicator 18 in a prominent position on the panel 14 to give the required speed warning. The green light signifies correct functioning of the lamp 13. |
