A method and an apparatus for compensating for mismatch of a transmitter are provided to compensate for a signal leakage component of a local oscillator as well as gain mismatch and phase mismatch of I/Q channels. A measurement signal generator(212) generates a measurement signal. A pre-compensator(208) pre-compensates the measurement signal to generate a test signal. A modulator(204) modulates the test signal. An envelop detector(214) detects envelop of the modulated test signal. A mismatch estimator(220) estimates mismatch of a transmitter(200) based on the detected envelope, and sets a parameter of the pre-compensator(208). The measurement signal generator(212) generates a measurement signal for measuring a signal leakage of a local oscillator, and the mismatch estimator(220) sets a parameter of the pre-compensator so that the pre-compensator(208) may pre-compensate the signal leakage of the local oscillator.
