A method for executing an emergency call in a mobile terminal is provided to effectively use a mobile terminal in an emergency by selectively executing an emergency origination call using an exterior memory, in which a binary file associated with call origination is stored, in case that a firmware update process using FOTA(Firmware Over the air) is not completed normally. If the power of a mobile terminal is turned on, an MSM(Mobile Station Module) checks the firmware update status of a memory part and judges whether a firmware update process has been normally completed(S201,S202). In case that the firmware update process has not been normally completed, the MSM checks whether an exterior memory is connected to the GPIO(General Purpose Input/Output Pin) of the mobile terminal(S204). In case that the exterior memory is not connected to the GPIO, the MSM restarts the abnormally completed firmware update process(S205). If the exterior memory is connected to the GPIO, an emergency call processing module selectively extracts a calling-associated binary file from the exterior memory under the control of the MSM and loads it to the RAM of the memory part(S206). The emergency call processing module initializes the minimum tasks required for call origination using the binary file(S207).
