A portable multimedia device capable of controlling power supply and a power supply controlling method thereof are provided to turn the portable multimedia device off by sensing detachment of portable sound output devices such as earphones or headphones, thereby preventing an unnecessary waste of a battery. A signal receiver(120) receives a detachment signal from portable sound output devices(110). A memory unit(121) stores data used inside a portable multimedia device(20). A display unit(122) displays a message generated inside the device(20). A button input unit(123) inputs an operation command from a user. A timer unit(124) counts a detachment time elapsed of the output devices(110). A reproducer(125) reproduces an audio file.
