A backlight unit and an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) including the same are provided to maintain uniform brightness distribution of light applied to an LCD panel by diffracting light emitted from a light emitting diode lamp and then directing the diffracted light to a light guide. A light emitting diode array(510) includes a plurality of light emitting diode lamps(512) spaced apart from each other at predetermined intervals. A light guide plate(520) guides light applied from the light emitting diode array. A slit bar(530) is placed between the light emitting diode array and the light guide plate and includes a plurality of slit lattices having at least two different slit intervals. The slit bar diffracts the light applied to the light guide plate from the light emitting diode array by the slit lattice. |
