<p>An adaptive AGC(Automatic Gain Control) method and apparatus are provided to prevent saturation of an amplified reception signal by setting a low reference power level when environment of a reception channel changes rapidly, and improve quality of a reception signal by setting a high reference power level when the environment of the reception channel is uniform or changes gradually. A channel change estimating unit(210) estimates variation of a reception channel gain. An operation mode controller(220) sets a gain control operation mode, indicating a set value for controlling reference power or a response speed of a loop filter based on the variation of the reception channel gain, as one of a plurality of channel modes. A power measuring unit(230) measures power of a reception signal by the unit of gain control interval. A gain controller(240) sets a signal amplification rate of a variable gain amplifier(120) based on the power measurement result in the set gain control operation mode.</p> |
