A refrigerator and a control method thereof are provided to pass refrigerant through a plurality of condensers and evaporators for increasing condensing and evaporating capacities at the initial driving of the refrigerator or after defrosting operation, thereby lowering a cavity temperature in a short time. A refrigerator comprises a compressor(110), a plurality of condensers(132,134) connected to the compressor and connected to each other in serial, an expansion element(150) for cooling refrigerant passing through the condensers to low temperature and low pressure states, and a plurality of evaporators(172,174) for carrying out heat exchange between the refrigerant passing through the expansion element and chilled air in a cavity, wherein one or more of the condensers and the evaporators are driven according to a cavity load.
