A portable TV receiver and a method for extending use time of a battery are provided to reduce a power consumption amount by changing a volume and brightness of a picture so that a viewer possibly watches the current broadcast until the end of the broadcast. A portable TV receiver is turned on(S301). A residual charge amount of a battery is measured(S302). Broadcast of a channel selected among a plurality of channels is sent out(S303,S304). The time available for watching the broadcast is calculated by using a power consumption amount and the measured residual charge amount(S305,S306). The time available for watching the broadcast and a question about execution of a power saving mode are displayed(S307). If a power saving mode execution command is inputted, predetermined power saving information is displayed(S308,S310). Broadcasting function values selected among broadcasting function values included in the predetermined power saving information are reset up and broadcasting functions are controlled according to the reset broadcasting function values(S311-313). |
