Provided is a method for preparing a vinyl chloride monomer, which uses abundant and cost-efficient natural gases as starting materials, inhibits formation of cokes, and shows an improved yield. The method for preparing a vinyl chloride monomer comprises a step of injecting a C_1-2 chloro compound to perform pyrolysis of a C_1 chloro compound. The C_1 chloro compound includes methyl chloride. The C_1-2 chloro compound is selected from the group consisting of methylene chloride, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, tetrachloroethane, trichloroethylene and hexachloroethane. In the method, chlorine and/or a boron- or phosphine-containing (oxy)chloro compound may be further injected.
