An apparatus and a method for correcting typo in a mobile communication terminal are provided to allow a user to automatically correct the typo to substitute words by pressing a deletion key when the wrong words occur. An apparatus for correcting typo includes a key input module(110), a detector(130), and a corrector(140). The key input module(110) receives various characters. The detector(130) determines whether a deletion key is input when characters are input through the key input module. The corrector(140) extracts a right word corresponding to a wrong word from a database having the list of wrong words if the input of the typo is determined by the input of the deletion key, and the typo is input.
