A method and a device for recovering an image forming system are provided to easily recover setting information, and firmware or software problems of the image forming system by obtaining the latest successful log data, and recovering an image forming device and a host computer based on recovery information of the latest successful log data if a recovery command is received. The image forming device(100) generates the log data including job information, an index, and the recovery information. If the recovery command is received, the image forming device obtains the latest successful log data among the generated log data and performs recovery by referring to the recovery information included in the obtained log data. The host computer(110) generates the log data including the job information, the index, and the recovery information. If the recovery command is received, the host computer obtains the latest successful log data among the generated log data and performs the recovery by referring to the recovery information included in the obtained log data.
