A cell selection device of a multi-band MS(Mobile Station) and a method therefor are provided to input cell searching number information, suited to network environments or regional conditions according to each frequency band, to a connected MS, thereby reducing the time required for a camping cell in a corresponding region as reducing battery consumption. A wireless unit(110) wirelessly connects with an RAN(Radio Access Network) through a selected band, and collects environmental information as camping and communicating. A controller(120) sets cell searching numbers corresponding to each frequency band, and searches a cell of a wireless environment suited to communication, then monitors a camping state. A signal strength unit(160) detects/manages reception signal strength of the RAN connected with the wireless unit(110). A cell setup unit(150) manages numbers of cells to be searched according to each frequency band, compares environments of the plural cells, and manages selected optimum cell information. An input/output unit(140) inputs a control command and a communication signal, and outputs operation information, the communication signal, and controlled results. A memory unit(130) records, manages, and outputs an operating program, data, and information in and from an allocated area. |
