A gun loading mechanism actuated by recoil moves a loading tray 1 for ammunition rounds in a simple harmonic type motion along a guideway 2 perpendicular to the gun axis 3 between an upper delivery position, shown, athwart the axis and a lower position in which an ammunition round may be inserted into the tray from a magazine 20. A tray lever 4 pivotally connected at 7 to the tray 1 is pivotally mounted at 5 to the gun cradle 6. A slot 9 having a curved end 10 in the lever 4 receives a slide 13 pivoted at 29 to an actuating lever 11 pivoted at 12 to the cradle 6. A torsion spring 24 biases the lever 11 to the full line position shown in which a pin 14 on the lever is located in a jaw 21 of an arm 18 pivoted at 19 to the breech ring 16 of the gun barrel 17. The pin 14 has a flat surface 15 and is received in a circular aperture having an entry 22 in the jaw 21. A spring 23 biases the arm 18 to the full line position shown. On firing the gun and recoil of breech ring 16 the arm 18 moves rearwards pivoting the lever 11 about its axis 12, the relative rotation of the arm and lever causing the pin 14 to become locked in the circular aperture of the jaw 21. The slide 13 moves along the slot 9 and the lever 4 pivots anticlockwise to move the tray 1 to its lower position, the parts now assuming the chain-line position. Further recoil of the gun causes arm 18 to disengage pin 14 and to return to its initial position by spring 23, the tray 1 and levers 4, 11 being retained by a spring catch (not shown), this catch being released at the end of the gun run-out whereupon the parts are returned to their original positions by the spring 24. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the arm 18 is replaced by a cam surface on the ring 16. |
