THE METHOD FOR PREPARING VINYL CHLORIDE MONOMER USING METHANE IN NATURAL GAS

Provided is a method for preparing a vinyl chloride monomer, which inhibits formation of cokes, shows an improved yield, and uses cost-efficient natural gases as starting materials. The method for preparing a vinyl chloride monomer comprises the steps of: (a) carrying out oxychlorination of methane in the presence of a catalyst comprising a Cu metal compound and further comprising an alkaline earth metal compound or a Zn or La metal compound to form a C_1 chloro compound; (b) carrying out pyrolysis of the C_1 chloro compound obtained from step (a) to form acetylene; and (c) reacting the acetylene obtained from step (b) with chlorine to form a vinyl chloride monomer.
