A method for driving a mirror which is colored/decolored by power supply and an apparatus thereof are provided to permit a driver to easily expand the field of rear view by preventing excessive coloration of the mirror. A method for driving a mirror which is colored/decolored by power supply includes a step of comparing the quantity of light thrown from a rear direction of a vehicle and the quantity of light transmitted from the mirror, and a step of determining whether to supply power to the mirror in accordance with the comparison result. An apparatus for driving the mirror includes a mirror transmitting light sensing unit(150), a vehicle back light sensing unit(130), a light quantity comparing unit(160), and a mirror power switch unit(170).
