A liquid crystal display device is provided to form third electrodes on a second substrate facing a substrate having first and second electrodes for controlling charges of the third electrodes, thereby obtaining desired viewing angle characteristics. A liquid crystal display device includes a second substrate(20) facing a first substrate(10) having first and second electrodes(11,12), and formed with third electrodes(21) for generating longitudinal electric fields together with the first and second electrodes of the first substrate. The third electrodes are applied with a voltage for generating the longitudinal electric fields, so that liquid crystal molecules are inclined and a narrow viewing angle is realized. A dielectric film(22) is formed on the third electrodes for reducing influence of the longitudinal electric fields. |
