A pelting needle is provided to make it possible to produce a high efficiency fleece or pelt material in which the differences in tearing resistances in various surface directions are reduced. A felting needle defines a longitudinal direction(14), above which a working part(12) is provided. The felting needle has a longitudinal shank having a two-cornered or multi-cornered cross section. The working part has indentations(21-26), wherein the working part is divided into at least two partial sections(15,16). Edges(18a,19a,20a,18c,19c) in regions of the indentations(21-26) are arranged in parallel with the longitudinal direction. The sections have cross sections, which are turned with respect to each other.
