A process for preparing gulonic-lactones by using hydrogenation is provided to reduce the preparation costs by replacing expensive catalyst such as platinum, palladium and rhodium with inexpensive catalyst of ruthenium, and improve preparation yield and selectivity by performing hydrogenation. The gulonic-lactones are prepared by hydrogenation of ascorbic acids represented by the formula(1) with gulonic-lactones represented by the formula(2) in the presence of solvent and ruthenium-impregnated catalyst under reaction temperature of 1-300 deg.C and hydrogen pressure of 1-500 atmospheric pressure, wherein R1 and R2 are the same or different, and each independently hydrogen, C1-C12 alkyl group, aryl group, alkoxy group, alkyl borane or alkyl silane, and R1 and R2 form cyclic alkyl group, aryl group, carbonyl group, alkyl borane group or alkyl silane group. The amount of ruthenium in the catalyst is 0.5-30 wt.%. The catalyst is supported by an inorganic oxide selected from silica, alumina, silica-alumina, zirconia, titania, zinc oxide, alkali metal oxide and alkali earth metal oxide, or a carbon. The solvent is water, ether or alcohol.
