An information processing system, a content output device, and a method and a program for controlling an information processing device by the content output device are provided to realize a simple configuration and perform a predetermined function by enabling the content output device functioning as a slave device to control the information processing device functioning as a master device. The content output device includes a function ID file generator generating a function ID file for enabling the PC to perform the predetermined function by button operation of a user, and a function file storing part storing the function ID file to a RAM(12). The PC includes a USB(Universal Serial Bus) interface(19) and a CPU(10). The USB interface detects connection between the PC and the content output device. The CPU starts an application program for performing the function based on presence of the function ID file stored in the RAM after the content output device is detected. The content output device generates the function ID file to store an image stored through an image unit to a recording medium according to a command issued by the button operation of the user.
