A method and an apparatus for preparing alkali cellulose are provided to efficiently produce alkali cellulose having a uniform alkali distribution in alkali cellulose, and consequently prepare cellulose ether having high transparency by using the alkali cellulose. The method for preparing alkali cellulose comprises the steps of: bringing pulp into continuous contact with an alkali metal hydroxide solution in a rotary feeder type contact device; and removing liquid from the obtained contact material. The apparatus for preparing alkali cellulose has a rotary feeder type contact device, and a liquid remover for removing liquid from a discharged cake. The rotary feeder type contact device includes: an annular housing(2) having at least one inlet and at least one outlet; an annular contact drum(3) which is able to be connected to the inlet and the outlet, is annularly rotatable along the housing(2), and has many filter cells(6) arranged in a circumference direction; and filtrate discharge tubes(7) which are placed in a diameter direction inside of the annular contact drum(3), are able to be connected to a filter in each filter cell(6), and collect filtrate from the filter. The rotary feeder type contact device is configured such that the input pulp and alkali metal hydroxide solution are brought into contact with each other in every filter cell(6) while being annularly transferred, a liquid fraction of the obtained contact material passed through the filter is collected in the filtrate discharge tubes(7), and a cake as the solid of the contact material is discharged from the outlet. |
