An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a method for manufacturing the LCD are provided to reflect light inputted to a black matrix to pixel regions, thereby improving the luminance and contrast ratio of the LCD. An LCD includes first and second substrates(110,120), a plurality of gate lines arranged on the first substrate in a first direction, and a plurality of data lines which are arranged on the first substrate and intersect the gate lines to define a plurality of pixel regions. The LCD further includes a switching element formed at each of the intersections of the gate lines and the data lines, a black matrix(128) which is formed on the second substrate in a rib shape and has a reflection layer(125) formed on the surface thereof, a color filter(129) formed on the black matrix, and a liquid crystal layer(130) formed between the first and second substrates.
