In-line converter for continuous filament tow webs fed, pref. under constant tension, from two creels to two cutters severing the webs to uniform staple lengths comprises a first slide pan condenser, back draft means pref. with an apron and pressure roller, a gill box whose fallers engage the web less than a staple length from the back draft means, front draft rolls, a second slide pan condenser, back draft means with an apron and concave pressure roller to eliminate feather edges in the sliver due to pulling out fibre groups, second gill box and front draft rolls, further condensing means such as follers of two frusto-conical sections joined at their narrow ends, and a coiler.
