A system for processing icon data, a method for managing an extensible icon, and a computer-readable storage medium are provided to facility icon management in a GUI(Graphic User Interface) by enabling one extensible icon to include each icon area related to different operations. The system includes a reduced type(250) of the extensible icon, an extended type(260), which includes a plurality of drop zones, of the extensible icon, and a drag-and-drop event handler(300) connecting to the reduced and extended type of the extensible icon. The drop zones include icon components, subdivided portions, and menu items included in a popup menu, which are arranged around the extended type of the extensible icon, and are respectively related to the different operation.
