A facsimile machine and a method of controlling the facsimile machine are provided to easily transmit facsimile images through a network by using an output device interface. A facsimile machine for transmitting an image through a network includes an image data storage unit for storing image data corresponding to the image received through the network, and an output device interface for connecting the facsimile machine with an image output device which outputs the image according to the image data provided by the facsimile machine. The output device interface converts a local connection of the facsimile machine and the image output device into a connection state or a disconnection state. When the logical connection of the facsimile machine and the image output device is in the connection state, the image output device manages files of the image data storage unit. When the logical connection is in the disconnection state, the facsimile machine receives the image data, converts the logical connection into the connection state, transmits the image data stored in the image data storage unit to the image output device, and then converts the logical connection into the disconnection state.
