961,110. Valves. STICHTING WATERBOUWKUNDIG LABORATORIUM. Feb. 26, 1963 [Feb. 27, 1962], No. 7695/63. Heading F2V. Communication between ports 5, 6 is controlled by a hemispherical plug rotatable in a correspondingly shaped recess in a housing 1 and provided with a groove oblique to the axis of rotation and containing an 0-ring 15. Both ports are situated inside the largest circle which any part of the ring 15 can describe and one port 5, is situated within the smallest circle which any part of the ring 15 can describe. As shown, the valve is closed, but when the plug is turned through 180 degrees the ports 5, 6 are interconnected by a space formed by a flattened portion 12, which may have a recess 13, of the plug. The plug, which is sealed at its outer extremity by an 0-ring 17, is retained in the housing by a disc 9 and screw cap 11. The port 5 is at all times sealed from leakage by the two 0-rings 15, 17 and so is preferably used as the inlet. The outlet 6 may be vented by a passage (not shown) in the plug and stem 7 when the valve is closed; also, a plurality of outlets 6 may be provided spaced so that they may be separately connected with the port 5 or so that two may be so connected simultaneously. A port 6 may consist of a number of small parallel openings to avoid the passage of the ring 15 over a single, large opening, and the plug may be less than a hemisphere. Instead of the flattened portion 12 of the plug the latter may be formed with bores for interconnecting the ports 5, 6.
|
