A variable type over-current trip device for a klystron high-voltage power supply and a control method thereof are provided to reduce loss due to stoppage of operation of a high frequency amplifier by immediately changing an over-current trip level in case of need during the operation of the high frequency amplifier. A variable type over-current trip device for a klystron high-voltage power supply includes a current detector for measuring a magnitude of a power current(I) applied from a power supply of a high frequency amplifier, a current compensator(130) connected to the current detector for changing a current signal detected by the current detector, a trip level adjustor(121) for outputting a signal corresponding to a trip set value, and a comparator(125) for calculating and comparing the signals outputted from the current detector and the trip level adjustor(130) to output a blocking signal to a circuit breaker of the power supply to the comparator(125) when the detected current exceeds the trip set value. The current detector is a toroidal core for outputting a voltage signal proportional to a magnetic field induced by a current along a power current conduit(300).
