Desulfurization of a hydrocarbon feed by selectively hydrogenating dienes in the presence of a catalyst comprising a Group VIII metal on a metal oxide support using a hydrogen:diene molar ratio of 1-5:1, extracting the product with a solvent to separate a desulfurized raffinate comprising olefins, paraffins and naphthenes from a sulfur-rich heavy aromatics fraction, and regenerating the solvent by distillation, comprises performing at least two of the above steps conjointly.
