An image forming device and a method for shortening a file searching time are provided to shorten delay when searching a file stored in an image forming device, and shorten time required for generating a search database in each system initialization by using a RAM. A memory(240) stores search data, which is required for searching the file, and a large capacity storing part(230) stores the files. A controller(260) searches the file by using the search data, reads the searched file from the large capacity storing part according to a command for processing the searched file, and processes the read file according to the processing command. A printing part(270) prints the searched file if a printing command of the searched file is received from the controller. A user interface(250) provides an interface for displaying a file list by reading the search data from the memory, and issuing the command for searching the file and processing the searched file. The memory is an NVRAM(Non-Volatile RAM), an SRAM, and a DRAM.
