The procedure for making a vehicle seat component with leather-covered padding and at least one concave surface zone uses leather (2) that is tanned, re-tanned and finished before cutting into sections and joining to a layer of a supple material (5) especially of a low-density foam. After the tanning and re-tanning stages and before finishing, the leather is impregnated with a synthetic resin which holds the finished layer (3) and under-layer (4) together. The combined layers are then placed in a mould which is injected with a supple foam precurser, the foam is expanded and the padded component is removed from the mould.
