A backlight unit and an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) having the same are provided to include a reflection plate having plural grooves and plural light emitting devices formed at the grooves. Plural grooves having inclined inside surfaces are formed at a reflection plate(420). Plural light emitting devices(430) are formed at plural grooves. The plural light emitting devices are point light sources. The bottom and opening portion of the groove are polygonal or circular shapes. The inclined inside surfaces are inclined with the angle of 10-90 degrees. The grooves have the height of below 40mm. The plural grooves are formed horizontally and vertically or zigzag. A light guide panel(440) is formed at the upper portion of the reflection plate and guides the light beam emitted from the light emitting devices. Plural reflecting members(435) are formed at the lower surface of the light guide panel.
