An ablation catheter with sensing and ablation electrodes on respective loops

An ablation catheter includes an elongate carrier including a tubular member 38, a first loop 14.1 at the distal end of the carrier, sensing electrodes 40 carried on the first loop for sensing irregular electrical activity in the patient's body, and a second loop 14.2 proximate the first loop on the carrier and in a fixed orientation with respect to the first loop. Ablating electrodes 42 are carried on the second loop for ablating a site of the patient's body where irregular electrical activity occurs. The tubular member of the elongate carrier is folded back on itself to form a distal hairpin and a pair of limbs 12 extending from the hairpin, the limbs having a pair of proximal ends. The loops are carried on the limbs and the size of each loop is adjustable by appropriate manipulation of the proximal end of at least one of the limbs.
