Advanced System Format (ASF) mixed media data is translated into enhanced Real Time Transport Protocol packet data for transmission through networks and eventual decryption and rendering. The enhanced protocol or data structure includes a plurality of single media packets (RTP Packets) 110, 112(1), 112(N), 116 which are formed from plural mixed media packets (ASF packets) 106, 108 that have a payload for each of a plurality of data streams (audio, video), the payload being encrypted and having an arbitrary block size, and having a payload header for each payload and including a boundary for the arbitrary block size. Each enhanced RTP packet includes only one data stream (audio or video), corresponds to one of the mixed media packets, and includes a payload corresponding to one of the payloads in one mixed media packet, a payload profile format header (RTP PF) corresponding to the one payload, and one or more payload headers of the one mixed media packet. The payload profile format header has a boundary corresponding to the respective boundaries of the one or more payload headers of the one mixed media packet and the one payload. |
