A coin feeder and a game machine are proposed comprising a light emitting element adapted to emit light and a light receiving element adapted to receive the light emitted by the light emitting element and wherein the coin detecting portion determines that the coins do not pass across the coin passing portion when the light receiving element is synchronized with the light emitted from the light emitting element and able to demodulate the light emitted from the light emitting element, and the coin detecting portion determines that the coins pass across the coin passing portion when the light emitted from the light emitting element can not be demodulated by the light receiving element.
