A method for correcting the recording power of a laser beam in an optical disc device and the optical disc device using the same are provided to improve recording quality and shorten a recording time by optimizing recording power when recording information. An MPU(MicroProcessing Unit) judges whether a certain recording condition is satisfied(S400). When it is judged that the recording condition is not satisfied, the MPU stops a recording process(S410). The MPU measures a recording characteristic of a recording area just before the recording process is stopped(S412,S414,S422-S428). The MPU corrects recording power for recording information on the basis of the corresponding measured result(S430,S432,S436).
