An image forming apparatus and method for outputting a list of to-be-deleted files are provided to delete an unnecessary file stored in a hard disk of the image forming apparatus within a short period by searching a file which satisfies a file deletion condition set by a user and then deleting the searched file. An image forming apparatus(30) having a storage unit(35) includes a file search module(41), a report generating module(42), and a file deletion module(43). The file search module searches the storage unit for files which satisfy a file search condition inputted by a user. The report generating module prints information on the searched files. The file deletion module deletes a file selected by the user from the storage device and reports the deletion result.
