The device (1) has a breathing assistance system (3) provided with a circuit for breathing air that crosses an inspiration pipe (4) and an expiration pipe (5). An expiration duct (12) is located in an inspiration duct (7) of the system. The ducts are thermally coupled through a Peltier element (16), where the element (16) has a hot side (17) and cold side (18) situated in the respective ducts. The gas present in the ducts are heated at more than 37 degree Centigrade and cooled at 35 degree centigrade, respectively, using the element (16).
