A multimedia data player having a random play function based on a selection history is provided to reflect preference according to the selection history of a user and enhance a play probability of multimedia data with high preference. A storing unit(120) stores a plurality of multimedia data and preference information mapped to the multimedia data. An input unit(110) receives a selection command or a skip command for the multimedia data. A preference calculating unit(130) updates the preference information mapped to the multimedia data according to the selection command or the skip command. A control unit(170) generates a play random number within a range of a set value including the preference information, and reads the mapped multimedia data corresponding to the play random number from the storing unit(120). A decoding unit(140) decodes the read multimedia data by using designated algorithm. A sound output unit(150) outputs the decoded multimedia data.
