A method for measuring a base coating thickness of electric steel sheets is provided to measure the thickness of base coating by measuring the intensity of a diffraction X-ray. A method for measuring a base coating thickness of electric steel sheets includes the steps of: irradiating an X-ray to a base coating layer(60) of a steel sheet at a set incident angle by using an X-ray generation unit(10); measuring an X-ray intensity spectrum diffracted from the steel sheet within a set angle range in a fixed position as an intensity of a diffraction X-ray using X-ray detectors(20,30); and calculating a thickness of the base coating layer of the steel sheet using the measured diffraction X-ray intensity spectrum using a calculating unit(40).
